With January behind us, we now look to February to entertain us through the last stretch of this unreasonably cold winter, and it seems like February is not going to disappoint.

Movies

Releasing on February 14 is a movie that’s either going to be terrible or so terrible it’s fantastic. I’m talking of course about Alita: Battle Angel. Having an unimpressive score on Rotten Tomatoes but still perking interest here at NIHF, for good or bad we will be talking about this one.

Streaming

Netflix is releasing a total of 38 original movies/shows to their platform this month with many of the new titles fitting nicely into a Valentine’s Day theme. On a slightly more morbid tone, there’s Velvet Buzzsaw. With the same writer and director as Nightcrawler, as well as Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead, this Netflix original follows an elitist art world as they are plagued with may or may not be supernatural paintings. Netflix did well with its previous ghost series The Haunting of Hill House, so I’m personally excited for this new one.

Video Games

February is bringing a lot of great titles this year. From the very anticipated “Anthem” which just had two weekends of demos to mixed reviews to the third installment of the “Crackdown” series. A potential sleeper hit is the new title “Jump Force”, a new fighter from Bandai Namco bringing characters from several different Japanese anime universes into a one on one style combat similar to “Soul Caliber”. I’m most looking forward to the spin-off of the recent “Far Cry 5”, “Far Cry: New Dawn”, taking place after the infamous ending. There will undoubtedly be a game for everyone this month.

Games with Gold and PlayStation Plus

Just in time for the remaster of Assassins Creed 3 next month. Assassins Creed Rogue is now free to play for Xbox Gold Members. Xbox Gold members will also now have access to Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Superbomber Man R, and Bloodstained: Curse of The Moon. For those with the PS4, you’ll have access to Hitman Season 1, For Honor, Gunhouse, and Rouge Aces.

NIHF Originals

We have a lot of fun things coming at you in February! Episodes of our podcasts Nerd It Here Weekly, The Watchman, and Talk Nerdy to me will continue to be released every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday respectively. As well as our new show, Noob to Number One, where Ryley, who is admittedly bad at video games, works his way to winning Fortnite.
